Is Respect Everything? #FridayFotoFiction

Two years back, Shalini couldn’t have thought of even entering these stores, let alone buying from here.

Though Mohit was her client, they soon developed a bond. He respected her and her profession, unlike others she’d met so far. She was extremely beautiful, representing a lotus. The reason people were attracted to her in the entire community. So, when Mohit proposed her knowing she is a sex worker, Shalini almost fainted.

It was a dream for Shalini and she soon moved in with Mohit. Today, she can buy anything in the world she wants regardless of the amount. Yet, she wasn’t happy.

Shalini was never ashamed of her work, of selling her body. She only wanted some respect from the world which she got with Mohit’s name.

But now, she’s a sex worker in true sense, dressed in soft expensive garments, adorning a fake smile.

    1. I wonder if he even married her for love. There can be many reasons behind Mohit marrying Shalini. Maybe Mohit didn’t want to continue going to the brothel, yet wanted Shalini/maybe he knew she wanted respect, so this wud be enough for her in a relationship/maybe he had some other hidden reason behind the marriage?

Thanks for the #FridayFotoFiction prompt, Tina 🙂

    1. That’s right, Namrata. However, more than Shalini, I want to know why Mohit married her, knowing her background. A lot of unanswered questions. Do let me what comes to your mind? Would be glad to read.
      Thanks much for reading 🙂

    1. Thanks for reading, Varsha. True. There are a lot of unanswered questions for Shalini after marriage. Maybe she gets them one day. 🙂

  1. I had almost wanted to pen down something similar, but didn’t. One reason could be Mohit empathized with her [rather than call it love] so married her. For her work was worship despite which profession she was in. Both were the same but she still yearned to work. The stage had changed but the drama remained the same, the characters -same.
    I loved it.

    1. Would have loved to read the same take on the prompt, Sudha. And I agree, perhaps Mohit felt empathetic towards her, but couldn’t love her. And she wanted respect which she got but at a cost. Thanks for reading. 🙂
